Organ/system-specific diseases
This section looks at some of the difficulties that can affect the kidneys, liver, digestion, eyes, ears and skin, and work being done by AMRC members to tackle these.
Kidneys
A large number of problems can affect the kidneys, from infections to chronic kidney disease
Liver
Up to 2 million people here may suffer from chronic liver disease, but many remain unaware of their illness
Digestion
Digestive disorders are not perhaps the most glamorous area of medical research, but we ignore them at our peril
Eyes and ears
‘Keep guard over your eyes and ears as the inlets of your heart’ - poet and novelist Anne Brontë
Skin
Eight million people in the UK suffer from some form of skin disease: 1 million have psoriasis, 40,000 new cases of skin cancer are reported each year and 20 per cent of children have eczema
